MY COACHING STYLE

When ‘I’ is replaced with ‘we’…

…even illness becomes wellness.

Let me join your health team and let’s create wellness together.

When coaching my clients, I like to focus on the ‘3 As’ – Awareness, Accountability and Acceptance.

With awareness, accountability and acceptance, healing follows.

Awareness

Educating yourself about your body and your health is the start of healing. When you become more aware of your body’s needs, understand what’s going on inside your body and how to respond to its messages, you really have the foundations for how to create optimal health.

Accountability

When you have someone to be accountable to, you have a cheerleader who’ll help you to stay on track so that you will see results. I will coach you, keep you accountable and help you set realistic goals week by week.

Acceptance

With acceptance comes peace. You move from fight-or-flight to rest-and-digest. Your nervous system calms down. You have more headspace for things you enjoy doing. Your gut feels happier. Your pain can dissipate. Accepting health as a journey rather than a distant goal makes the process more enjoyable.

Accepting yourself exactly the way you are, with flaws, imperfections, health issues, negative thoughts and emotions, and fluctuations of health – which we all have – you liberate yourself from a burden of high expectations and anxiety. And you are able to love yourself as you are which supports healing. Acceptance doesn’t mean giving up on getting better, surrendering your agency, or liking the difficulties your health issues bring. But it can ease your suffering, gives you agency to make a change and makes your body better able to heal.

Accepting uncertainty can be scary but it’s also liberating as it allows you to let go, be present, live your life to the fullest here and now, while trusting the process and believing what can come.

“Accept what is. Let go of what was. Believe in what will be.”

I respect your map of the world.

As a coach, I do not tell my clients what they have to do without listening to the client or taking guidance from them. In fact, I never tell my clients that they have to do anything.

My aim is to listen, understand, educate, guide. To me, coaching also means challenging my clients to do their best while at the same time respecting their lifestyle, their circumstances, limitations and wishes.

As a coach, I respect that the client’s “map of the world” is different from my own map. We all make decisions based on our own map/model of the world. You walk through your life guided by your map. I walk through mine guided by mine. These can be completely different. I aim never to force my map onto you!

As a coach, I try to, as much as possible, put myself in your shoes. But I still do it using my own map, as that’s the only map I know and have.

My job is not to tell you what to do.

I’m not here to tell my clients what to do. I’m here to support you with whatever changes you are ready to start making. Therefore, my main wish is that my clients feel supported and listened to. I want my clients to know that I don’t expect perfection.

I want my clients to be able to tell me if I’ve overstepped the mark or tried to force my map on them. I want my clients to be able to feel that they can talk to me about anything that is important for them about their health and their progress.

But I also want them to know that progress is hardly ever linear and smooth. We can make progress even when we have setbacks. We can take 2 steps forward and 1 step back when something unexpected happens.

That’s completely normal! That’s life! That’s when you’ve learned something new.

Together we work as a team.

I am here to educate, motivate, inspire and challenge you. I’m here to keep you accountable the way that suits you.

Together we set weekly goals that YOU choose as your main priority for each week. A goal that you feel is challenging but doable.

Most clients take small steps and the progress can be slow. And that’s perfectly ok. In fact, most of the time slow and steady is much better than going gung-ho and then burning out or getting stressed and overwhelmed, and ending up feeling like a failure.

“Slowly is the fastest way to get to where you want to be.”
–Andre De Shields

I don’t always have the answers. My role as a coach is to give you the tools and ask you questions that help YOU find the answers.

My job is not to fix you.

I’m not here to fix you. Only YOU can do that. Although, in my view, fixing yourself is not really the goal here. When we have a ‘must fix myself’ mentality, we often get disappointed. We feel like a failure.

But when you see your efforts to improve health as a fun, enjoyable and beautiful journey during which you are learning about yourself, your body and your health, and finding answers bit by bit, then you take a lot of pressure off the shoulders.

Remember!
There’s no failure, only learning and useful feedback.

I’m your team member!

Let me join your health team and be your cheerleader! Let me cheer you on along your health journey. Let me dig deeper and give you tools to take with your for the rest of your life.

Let’s work together to turn illness to wellness!
