Frequently Asked Questions

What you get when working with me?

I’m your friendly coach, team leader, researcher, cheerleader and negotiator!
Read more about my coaching style here.

Here’s what you get if you work with me (click the item to open for more information):

1. A friendly coach!

When you work with me, you get a coach who is there with you all the way!
Someone to hold your hand.
You don’t have to do it all alone, you don’t have to figure it out yourself.
I’ll do it for and with you.

2. A team!

We work as a team!
When ‘i’ is replaced with ‘we’ even illness becomes wellness!
But, you don’t just get me in your team or just my knowledge and expertise but also my two mentors’ expertise and knowledge.
If I struggle to know which direction to go with you, I will discuss your case (anonymously of course!) with my mentors.
One of my mentors is a former pharmacist and knows all about medications and potential drug-nutrient interactions, the other one is an expert in interpreting blood tests.
I also get great support with the testing labs and supplement companies I use, and help with choosing the best and most targeted tests and supplements for you, as well as support interpreting test results, be it stool, blood or other test results (but we can work together even without running any tests).

3. I fit my recommendations around your circumstances and lifestyle

There’s no point in recommending something to you that you can’t fit into your lifestyle.
The only successful recommendations and suggestions are those that you can and are happy to put into practice.
The only changes that bring results are those that you agree with me and own.
I listen to you to understand you and your life circumstanced better, and then I negotiate with you and challenge you but I never make you do anything you don’t want to/can’t do.
The only thing I can’t do is to make my recommendations happen for you, only you can do that.

4. I respect your map of the world.

As a coach, I respect that your “map of the world” is different from my own map.
We all make decisions based on our own map/model of the world.
You walk through your life guided by your map; I walk though mine guided by mine.
These can be completely different.
I aim never to force my map onto you!
As a coach, I try, as much as possible, to put myself in your shoes but I still do it using my own map, as that’s the only map I know and have.
So you guiding me is as important as me guiding you.

5. I'm invested in your health!

I’ve got your back because it’s good for my business.
I want a happy client as a result of you working with me.
Therefore, I do my absolute best to help you (I’m also a bit of geek and love doing research to be able to help you better!).
For that reason, I also value your commitment.
With commitment from both of us, the results will be quicker!

6. I'm me!

…and never pretend to be anything else, and never expect you to pretend to be anything you are not.
My work is my passion – I love helping others find their optimal health.
I consider myself authentic, friendly, non-jugemental, gentle and funny.
Our sessions are relaxed, but we still get to the point and make each session count.
I don’t want to waste your time, and I hope you wouldn’t want to waste mine either.
I’m human, exactly like you, with flaws and health issues.
I have experienced my own chronic health issues so I can understand you better because I’ve been there too.

Do you have doubts about working with me?

Ask me anything!

Here are a few things that I NEVER DO when coaching my clients (click the item to open for more information):

1. I will never tell you to diet or calorie count!

You probably know my view on diets or calorie counting and why I think they don’t work – I’ve written about this in my weekly newsletters.
I will most probably add more to your eating plan rather than reducing the foods you eat.
It’s all about changing your lifestyle for good, not just for a short term.
Warning: You might start counting colours as a result of us working together though!

2. In fact, I will never tell you to do anything!

You tell me what you can/can’t or want/don’t want o do and I will give you the knowledge and educate you so you can make informed decisions.
I aim to support you as best as I can around your likes and dislikes, your lifestyle and your goals.

3. I will never cut out all your favourite foods from your diet!

There may be some foods I suggest for a short-term elimination to determine if your symptoms are related to any foods but your meals will be full of yummy goodness and you can still have your treats.

4. I will never tell you to buy unnecessary tests or supplements!

My approach is always ‘food first’ but tests and supplements can be useful to speed up the progress but only if the test results would change my approach and only if the supplements are evidence-based, high-quality and targeted to your symptoms/issues.
Generally, I only use stool testing and blood testing as these give us the best information what’s going on in your body.
But you are still in control whether you want to invest in them; we can still work together without running any tests.
I very rarely use intolerance testing because food is almost never the root cause of your symptoms – once the gut is healed then you are most likely able to add the foods you have been avoiding back to your diet.

5. I will never use a '1 size fits all' approach!

You are unique!
Biochemially, genetically and through your lifestyle choices as well as your medical and family history, hence all my recommendations are personalised and based on your uniqueness.

6. I will never promise any quick fixes (even when I regularly see quick results in clinic)!

Heavily promoted quick fixes are usually fads that never work for the long-haul.

7. I will never tell you to just eat specialist expensive foods that are difficult to find!

My approach is going back to basics, eating in season and learning to prepare quick and convenient meals that can save you money too. I might give you suggestions for some foods/products that you can’t find in the supermarket but I always tell you where to find them if you want to try any.

8. I will never tell you to eat low-fat!

Fat, as I’m sure you know, is crucial for your health, so my recommendations always include plenty of good healthy fats that keep you fuller for longer and nourish you better than the processed low-calorie, low-fat foods you can find in the supermarkets.
