  • Have you booked your place on my upcoming talk yet?

If not, hurry up!

Are you tempted by those restrictive detox diets or a juice fasts that are often heavily promoted at this time of the year, after the indulgences of the festive season?

Don't!

Instead come to my talk 'How to support liver detox naturally and sensibly' to learn why cutting out food groups and eating cold raw food is not the best thing you can do to your body at this time of the year.

During the winter months, your body needs cooked foods to keep warm and the liver needs vital nutrients to keep its crucial detoxification function running, ridding the body from thousands of substances that we are exposed to, either natural substances through the body's own metabolic processes (e.g. hormones) or synthetic ones through environmental exposures (e.g. pesticides). I'll give you tips on what foods to include to optimise liver detoxification and support the safe excretion of these toxic substances from the body.

We will also chat about different lifestyle changes that you can do to reduce the burden of the liver.

For more info and to book your place, follow the link in my bio.

A healthy treat provided and drinks available from the cafe.

Friday 18th Jan @foxesdencafe
Binfield.

  • πŸ¦‘Have the winter viruses got you down?
.
🀧 I'm feeling a scratch in my throat so have pulled out my full arsenal of home remedies!
.
πŸ’‰ Here are my top 5 remedies that I turn to every time I feel a cold is coming.
.
1️⃣ Drink copious amounts of hot water with ginger and turmeric (fresh or dried), honey, thyme and lemon.
.
2️⃣ Make a paste with garlic, raw honey, fresh grated ginger & turmeric, lemon juice and flesh (as in the picture) and eat it by the spoon. You can also add these ingredients to a smoothie with other ingredients if you don't fancy eating it straight. It's pretty potent.
.
▢️ All of the above ingredients are anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial and can help the body defend against viruses.
.
3️⃣ Make a slow-cooked chicken soup.
.
▢️ Read more about why chicken soup might help and check out my delicious 'chicken soup for the soul and body' recipe on my blog. Follow the link in bio.
.
4️⃣ Drink elderberry tea or syrup.
.
▢️ Studies have shown that elderberry can deactivate the enzyme neuraminidase that is part of the flu virus and helps the virus penetrate cell membranes of the lungs and proliferate. Elderberry may stop this and shorten the duration of flu and alleviate symptoms.
.
5️⃣ Gargle with saline water, mixed with a drop of thyme, oregano or tea tree oil.
.
▢️ Thyme and tea tree essential oils may be effective against various types of bacteria and viruses including the common cold.
.
🍯 As you can see, the same ingredients are featuring in most of the above tips. So when you stock your cupboards with these ingredients, you can use them in many different ways (as well as in cooking, apart from the essential oils, of course).
.
πŸ₯¦ I'd love to know your favourite remedies when you are down with a cold?

Stay well! 😍

  • πŸ’Ÿ Looking at my #bestnine2018, my year definitely was a colourful one!
. πŸŽ‡ Year 2018 was my first full year as MetaWell. And what a year it was!
. 🎊 It hasn't been easy, I've had to challenge many of my own doubts and fears to get my business off the ground. I'm ever so grateful for the support of every single amazing person who helped me belief in myself so that I could feel the fear and do it anyway!
. πŸŽ† I'm so very grateful for being able to follow my passion and do what I love. I'm thankful for all my nutritional therapy clients who've trusted me to help them and those who've attended my events. You've been great! Thank you! πŸ’–
. πŸŽ‰ Also, a huge thank you to all of you who've followed, liked and commented on my posts over the past year. I'm very honoured that you are giving away some of your precious time to support me. 😘
. πŸ₯‚ I'm really looking forward to 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣9️⃣ and excited about new challenges, some great events that I'm planning, as well as meeting more of you lovely people.

THANK YOU!

HERE'S TO A HEALTHY HAPPY FABULOUS NEW YEAR! 🍾πŸ₯‚πŸŽ‰πŸ’•πŸ’– #metawell #happynewyear #2019 #healthyhappynewyear #thankyou
  • What a lovely Christmassy sight! πŸ’–
.
Just loving the colours! It's very retro isn't it! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
. πŸ’– This is mixed dried fruits that we cooked down with orange peel and juice (+some flesh), with cinnamon sticks and star anise for over an hour to make a lovely sticky mush.😁
.
πŸ’–
We've given this classic Finnish Christmas dish - which is actually called a "soup" πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ - a slight twist by adding the orange and leaving out sugar (yes the traditional recipe uses sugar on top of the sweet fruits 😝).
.
πŸ’–
This will be served for Christmas Eve brunch tomorrow morning with rice pudding. I know, that's a heavy carb load but hey, it's Christmas! And it'll keep us going until our big meal in the evening. πŸ˜‹
.
πŸ’–
This'll be also great as a dessert or breakfast with dairy or coconut yogurt or my cashew orange cream (recipe on my Facebook group Healthy New You - For Life, link in bio). #sekametelisoppa #sekahedelmΓ€keitto #ricepudding #driedfruits #dessert #breakfast
  • What are you cooking in the run up to Christmas?
. πŸ’–
I made this warm veggie / vegan salad for dinner last night. . πŸ’–
Turmeric, ginger and garlic-sautΓ©ed broccoli, green lentils and roasted courgette slices on a bed of lettuce and radicchio leaves, topped with chilli-roasted chickpeas.
. πŸ’–
Lentils are a great addition to the diet for to their fabulous micronutrient profile. They contain good amounts of folate, manganese, iron, phosphorus, copper, potassium and B vitamins, as well as smaller amounts of many other micronutrients.
. πŸ’–
They are also high in fibre, plant-based protein and some anti-inflammatory phytonutrients such as polyphenols, which feed the gut bugs. .
πŸ’–
Some studies have associated consumption of lentils with a lowered risk of heart disease, due to reduction of homocysteine, blood pressure and cholesterol.
.
πŸ’–
As another legume, chickpeas have a similar but not necessarily as impressive nutrient profile as lentils. I love roasting my chickpeas so they can substitute crutons in gluten-free salads. .
πŸ’–
Cooking healthy meals pre-Christmas may help your digestive system deal with the festive indulgences later. Enjoy everything guilt-free and go back to your healthy ways again after the festivities. πŸ’–
