Introducing Pedro, The Happy Poo

Meet my team member, Pedro The Poo. He is a happy poo. He helps me help my clients have happier poos. And happier moods!
Do you know if you are passing happy poos? If you think your gut issues are affecting your mood, creating anxiety or stress, then your poos are not happy. Unhappy poos can also be linked to other chronic systemic conditions and symptoms.
Bristol Stool Chart
Have you ever come across the Bristol stool chart? It’s a handy tool that is I use in clinic with my clients.

Types 1-2 indicate constipation
Types 3-4 are considered normal
Type 4 is ideal, a happy poo
Type 5-7 indicate loose stools/diarrhoea
Ideally, we want to pass daily type 4 poos.
- They look like sausages.
- There are soft but solid.
- They are passed easily and comfortably.
- They leave behind no or very little wiping for you do.
- They are not urgent. (But never delay a visit to the loo intentionally if you have a toilet nearby, when the call comes.)
- They give you that delightful feeling of full evacuation.
- They leave you feeling lighter and happy.
Ask yourself these questions
Does the above happy poo description apply to you? If not, here are some things you want to consider (check the linked blogs for tips and advice):
- Are you eating too much processed foods?
- Are you eating too much sugar?
- Are you keeping your body hydrated by drinking enough water and getting electrolyte minerals from your diet?
- Is your diet varied?
- Are you eating a rainbow?
- Are you digesting your food properly and chewing your food well?
- Are you stressed?
- Do you have food intolerances?
- Are you moving enough or is your life very sedentary?
- How are you sitting on the loo?
- Are you often delaying bowel movements when the call comes?
- Have you had a severe tummy bug at some point in your life (e.g. on an exotic holiday)?
- Do you have a diagnosed gut condition?
If you struggle with any of these, why not book a call with me and we can chat about how simple diet and lifestyle changes can help?
Client cases
I’ve worked with many clients with gut-related issues, some with pretty serious conditions. Here are some examples of my clients:
1. Ulcerative Colitis
A client with ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory bowel disease, IBD) was passing blood up to 10 times a day, feeling anxious about socialising and having to inject themselves with immunosuppressants to calm the inflammation in the gut. Their symptoms completely cleared within weeks with the overhaul of their rather processed diet. Alongside dietary changes, we optimised their vitamin D level and used some other anti-inflammatory supplements. Eventually they could also come off medication (please never stop your medication before discussing it with your doctor!). In this lovely testimonial, they wrote:
“I was in and out of hospital, dealing with a gut health issue and medicine side effects. I’m now totally symptom-free, as simple as that!”
Of course, it’s not always this simple but sometimes it could be!
2. No gallbladder
Another client without gallbladder was having urgent diarrhoea every morning with anxiety about leaving the house without knowing where the next toilet was. They saw their bowel movement normalising within weeks after some small changes to their meals and with using some gut-specific supplements.
3. Never had daily bowel movements
A further client told me that they’ve never have had daily bowel movements, “it’s just the way I am”. They also suffered from anxiety and depression, bloating and weight gain. Within a very short period of us working together, they started passing daily poos.
4. IBS-D
This client had IBS that was causing diarrhoea and inconsistent bowel movements that had been with her for over 5 years. It didn’t take them long to start enjoying consistent and regular daily bowel movements after a few small changes. And now they are a bit obsessed with their daily poo!
I’d like you to know that there’s no need to suffer. It’s doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Small changes in diet and lifestyle and some targeted supplements can make a big difference!
