Stepping Stones Bracknell Recovery College had its first ever Open Day last Monday and it was a huge success! We had a great fun day and fabulous turnout of visitors who came to find out more about what we do, chat with facilitators and students and sample healthy foods from our good mood buffet, provided by Jo from Time to Nourish. I’m very proud to be part of this fabulous group of people and this great charity that provides free courses and workshops to support mental wellbeing in the community. So it was such an honour, during Mental Health Awareness week, to be able to spread the word about the college and the crucial importance of looking after your mental health. The theme of the mental health awareness week was loneliness. Students at Stepping are forming new friendships and connecting with others with similar struggles, in order to combat loneliness and anxiety, step out of their comfort zone for increased confidence, educate themselves about different mental health conditions and learn different ways of looking after their mental wellbeing. The highlight of the day, on top of meeting so many lovely people of course, was our ABBA flash mob that we performed in Lexicon twice. Did you catch us? We sang and danced our hearts out in the hope of spreading happiness and ‘chasing away loneliness’, to quote the lovely Anne-Marie Gawen, mental health first aid trainer and course facilitator at Stepping Stones, and founder of Unlock Your Wellbeing. Here’s the official video including our ABBA flash mob. Hope you enjoy it! Don’t forget that courses are still running until the end of the summer term so do check out the summer term time table on the website. I will be running my Food and Mood course twice again before the summer holidays; one 4-week, in-person course, one online course with two shorter early evening sessions. It’s FREE for you to attend! Workshop 1 – The Gut-Brain Connection Anyone who wants to understand the connection between what they eat and how they feel, and learn how to improve their diet to feel healthier and happier, and is committed to attending the sessions. So if you are 18 or over, live or work in the Bracknell Forest Borough Council area, and maybe struggle with sleep, stress, loneliness, anxiety, a mental health condition or addiction, then these courses are for you!
